Ekam is a devotional app: a daily feed of darshan, aarti and bhajan videos, a panchang and festival calendar, a personalised rashi reading, and prayer reminders. This policy explains exactly what we collect, why, who else sees it, and how to get rid of it. It covers the Ekam Android app (com.rootlex.ekamapp) and this website.

The short version. We collect your Google account details so you can sign in, the birth details you choose to enter so we can calculate your rashi reading, your reminder settings, and what you like, save, share and watch so the feed can be ranked for you. We show no ads, we run no advertising or analytics SDKs, and we do not sell your data. Your GPS coordinates never leave your phone.
1. What we collect
Account details
Ekam uses Google Sign-In through Firebase Authentication. When you sign in we receive and store your email address, display name and profile photo URL, plus the account identifier Firebase issues. We never see or store your Google password.
Devotional profile — you choose whether to provide this
The daily rashi reading is calculated from birth details. If you enter them, we store your date of birth, time of birth, birth place name and state, and the values derived from them (moon rashi, janma nakshatra and pada). We also store your preferred state for panchang timings and your app language. The app works without any of this; you simply do not get a personalised reading.
Reminders and calendar
Your morning, evening and festival reminder settings and times, any custom reminders you add, and any festivals you add to Utsav. These are stored so they survive a reinstall and follow you to a new phone. The notifications themselves are scheduled by your device.
Activity in the app
Which posts you like, save, share and view, comments you post, and the dates you were active (used for your bhakti streak). This is what ranks your feed — Ekam has no recommendation AI, only counts and your own history.
Device and technical data
A push notification token and its platform, so reminders can reach your device. Our servers keep ordinary operational logs, which include IP address and request details, for security and debugging.
Location — handled on your device only
Panchang timings (sunrise, sunset, muhurats) depend on where you are. If you grant location permission, the app reads your coordinates on the device, converts them to the nearest Indian state, and sends only that state code to our servers. Your latitude and longitude are never transmitted and are not stored by us. You can skip the permission and pick your state from a list instead.
Payments
If you subscribe, payment is processed by Razorpay. We receive and store a subscription identifier, plan, status and renewal date. We never receive your card, UPI or bank details.
What we do not collect
- No advertising identifiers, and no ads.
- No third-party analytics, attribution or crash-reporting SDKs — there are none in the app.
- No contacts, no photo library, no microphone, no call or SMS data.
- No precise location on our servers.

Where Indian data protection law requires a legal basis, ours is your consent (for the devotional profile and location), performance of our agreement with you (running the app and your subscription), and our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure and working.
3. Who else sees it
We do not sell personal data and we do not share it for advertising. We use these processors to run Ekam:

We may also disclose data where the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
4. Where it is stored
Our API runs in Singapore and our providers operate globally, so your data may be processed outside India. We use established providers with contractual data protection terms.
5. How long we keep it
Your account data is kept while your account exists. Server logs are kept for a short operational period. Subscription and payment records are kept as long as tax and accounting law requires, even after you delete your account.
6. Deleting your account
You can delete your Ekam account at any time. Email ekam-support@rootlex.com from the address you signed up with, with the subject Delete my account. We action these within 30 days and confirm by reply. You do not need to install anything or speak to anyone first.
When you delete your account we:
- cancel any open subscription;
- delete your sign-in identity from Firebase;
- erase your name, email, profile photo, birth details, preferred state, custom reminders and custom festivals;
- delete your likes, saves, shares and view history;
- delete your push notification tokens.
Comments you posted publicly may remain visible, detached from your identity. Records we are legally required to retain, such as payment records, are kept for as long as the law requires and are not used for anything else.
7. Your rights
You can ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, or delete it. Most of it you can see and change yourself in the app. For anything else, write to ekam-support@rootlex.com. If you are not satisfied with our response you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
8. Children and child safety
Ekam is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will remove it.
We operate a zero-tolerance policy on child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE). Our full standards, how to report such content, and how we respond are published at Child Safety Standards.
9. Security
Traffic is encrypted in transit. Access to production systems is restricted. No service can promise perfect security, but we take reasonable measures appropriate to the data we hold.
10. Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top, and for significant changes we will tell you in the app. Continuing to use Ekam after a change means you accept the updated policy.
